Family Holidays in Winter

At the Verwöhnhotel Bismarck, your family holiday in Bad Hofgastein will be a very special time full of warmth, laughter and shared experiences. Even at breakfast, there is a sense of anticipation in the air – for sparkling snowflakes, snow-covered peaks and relaxing hours in the thermal waters. While the little snow explorers make their first turns in the large family park at the Angertal ski centre or let off steam on the mini fun slope, parents and grandparents discover the five ski mountains of the Gastein Valley. Over 200 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes and runs up to ten kilometres long make the valley a paradise for ski fans of all ages. The new Early Morning Skiing is particularly special: in January and February 2026, early risers can hit the slopes every Wednesday before everyone else – including a spectacular sunrise and a cosy mountain breakfast.

But winter in Gastein can also be very peaceful and close to nature. More and more families are discovering winter hiking for themselves. New this season is the idyllic ‘Stubneralm’ winter hiking trail, which leads from the middle station via the Stubneralm – with sweeping panoramic views, plenty of winter tranquillity and a rustic hut with an open fireplace. Those who prefer a more modern experience can stop off at the new ‘Hirsch & Maus’ mountain restaurant on the Schlossalm or hike across the ridge in Dorfgastein to the stylish ‘Wolke Sieben’. A highlight for all nature lovers: the brand new ‘Winter-Wanderschaukeln’ (winter hiking swings), which connects two mountains and four cable cars with just one ticket – perfect for variety and adventure! There is always something going on in the valley too: during ‘Lichter:Shoppen’ (light shopping) in February, you can stroll through Bad Hofgastein every Thursday until 10 p.m., accompanied by atmospheric lighting and music. In addition, popular events such as ‘Art on Snow’ with artistic ice sculptures, the cosy ‘Musik:Wohnzimmer’ (music living room) or the cheerful ‘Palmen auf den Almen’ (palm trees on the alpine pastures) event in late winter attract visitors – a colourful mix of sun, snow and fun for the whole family.

After an eventful day, warmth, tranquillity and well-being await you. The hotel's own family spa with four thermal pools – two indoor and two outdoor – is divided into relaxation and family areas, making it ideal for little water lovers and parents seeking relaxation. Important is the family proof: identity cards with the same name, or in case of patchwork families a registration certificate/residence certificate.
