Autumn in the Mountains -
A Uniquely Beautiful Experience
Autumn in Gastein is truly something special! When the sun's rays are milder and begin to slant through the colour-changing forest in the afternoon, then the time has come to welcome the autumn to Bad Hofgastein.
The Gastein Valley begins to put itself on pause and take a break from the summer months when nature teems with life. Celebrate autumn together with the people who work and live in Gastein. Authentic, unspoilt customs and traditions over the centuries have been maintained to give you a colourful picture of life in Gastein.
A Celebration of Summer’s Finale
At the end of August the "Harvest Festival" begins with a boisterous opening ceremony. The people of the Gastein Valley adorn themselves and their houses and business with festive decorations. This includes the "Tracht" - the distinctive traditional clothing i.e. lederhosen and dirndl dresses. The Harvest Festival, which lasts until the end of October, is a perfect time for you to experience something new!
Hiking Alpine Pastures
Hike leisurely from pasture to pasture. Meander through the landscape enjoying the magnificent natural beauty, the diverse views and the silence of this world of mountains and lakes. With every breath you take you inhale the crystal clear mountain air - this is alpine hiking.
And the best part is that along the way, around 40 authentic alpine chalets invite you in for a welcome break and necessary reenergising.
Gastein is also known as the “Valley of Alpine Chalets”. A "Gastein Alpine Guide" is available at the front desk or if you prefer we can send you a prospectus via email. Other highlights include Europe's highest suspension bridge, the “Glockner View” observation platform, and guided half-day hikes from the tourist office (5 minutes’ walk from the hotel).
